The Kindness Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the foster care community throughout the Lehigh Valley, Poconos, and eastern PA by providing free essential goods and services. Youth who enter foster care often come with nothing but the clothing they are wearing. When foster families welcome youth into their homes, they can visit our shops, The Exchange, in Emmaus, or The Cottage, in Stroudsburg, to receive free clothing, shoes, diapers, formula, car seats, cribs, beds, baby equipment, hygiene items, and all the things they need to feel settled. Our goal is to ensure that foster parents don't have to concern themselves with the financial concerns of bringing children into their home and can focus on the emotional needs of each child. Our free service also can allow foster parents the opportunity to say "YES" if more than one child needs to be placed with them unexpectedly (for example, a sibling group of 2 or more children). We have everything they may need for all ages from newborn through young adult! In partnership with community businesses, our free services have expanded to provide enrichment for children and teens such as free swimming lessons, tutoring, music lessons and other opportunities that provide equity in their childhood experiences. Our Family Support Coordinator has plans for providing special family events, parents' nights out, support groups and other necessary support as special needs arise with registered TKP families. The vision is to provide a well-rounded foster care community center, filling the gaps for fostering families so they feel supported in their important journey.
