Enjoy these historic highlights of our Wolf Pack in action from the 1950s – 1970s. Did You Know? Our Turnpike Work Dates to the 1950s In 1956, Michael Baker was named the consulting engineer to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), a position our company still holds today. For nearly seven decades, Michael Baker has continuously served as the consulting engineer for the PTC, performing cursory inspections, preparing annual reports, reviewing the capital budget, and providing recommendations for maintenance and repair. We Designed the Betsy Ross Bridge In 1969, Michael Baker completed the design of the 8,481-foot-long Betsy Ross Bridge for the Delaware River Port Authority. The bridge is a continuous steel truss bridge across the Delaware River connecting Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Pennsauken, New Jersey. We Designed the New River Gorge Bridge Michael Baker designed and managed the construction of West Virginia’s 1,700-foot New River Gorge Bridge, which was the world’s longest single span steel arch at the time of its completion in 1977. Colleagues from Michael Baker International’s Minneapolis office recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of the office opening in Minnesota. This location opened in 2014 as a bridge-focused office with significant expertise in bridge load rating, bridge rehabilitation and finite element modeling using Midas/CIVIL. Over the last 10 years, the office has grown from three employees to nearly 30. Our Minneapolis colleagues look forward to serving our clients in Minnesota and the surrounding states for many years to come. #WolfPackPride

This month, Michael Baker International celebrates 84 years of Making a Difference for our company, our clients and our communities. On May 1, 1940, our firm opened for business at the Penn-Beaver Hotel in Rochester, Pennsylvania. The firm's first job was a $25 lot survey, and our early work included survey contracts with the War Department; civil engineering contracts with National Defense Housing; contracts for the design of sewer, road and airport systems; and property survey contracts for private-sector firms.
